Pedestrian
What to expect.
Walking is often the first step toward independent mobility for autistic adolescents. It provides opportunities to build spatial awareness, practice traffic safety, and develop confidence in navigating community environments. Pedestrian skills form the foundation for all other mobility options, as understanding traffic patterns and environmental cues is essential whether walking, biking, or using transit. With practice and support, walking independently can greatly enhance quality of life and open doors to greater independence.
